Be Busy But Be Healthy

Mariam Adeyemi-Timmer

Being busy is a norm in our today’s society this is simply due to the fact that our world is literary on a roller-skater and so is everything in it.  To keep up the rapid evolution, we humans have to put in a little bit of extra.

While being busy, it is easy to get away by the entire craze. This has so much become the trend that that forgetting to live a healthy lifestyle has become a major phenomenon in our world. Hence the plethora of health challenges that plague our today’s world.

Here are a few simple but worthwhile tips to keeping a healthy lifestyle while you jettison through your busy schedule.

1. PLANNING AND STRATEGY: Living healthy while being busy involves thorough planning and strategizing. Determination is also a key to living healthy. You do have to be healthy to be able to meet up the various schedules and meetings you have all lined up so proper planning should be in place.

Plan your shopping list to include healthy foods and snacks, draw out a schedule for all meals for the week. Shop during the weekend and set out time to prepare meals ahead of the week.

Chop the foods that need chopping and put into small bags; grill the things that need grilling and so. Basically do all you can to make morning meal preparation faster.

2. BREAKFAST: This should be your most important meal of the day.

Studies have shown that frequently skipping breakfast has been linked with an increase in obesity and diabetes risks, as well as morning moodiness. When you are tempted to run out the door remember to grab something and eat as you go. A small quick meal in the morning today could save you a whole lot tomorrow.

3. WORKOUT AND EXERCISE: Be deliberate about exercise. Choose a gym that is close to your work place and always keep a gym bag in your bag. You can slip in during lunch hour or at the close of work.

Try not sitting behind the desk from the beginning of work to the close of work. Deliberately run errands you would ordinarily have sent someone to do.  The little exercise you can gather will go a long way to help strengthen your muscles.

4. SNACKS: For whatever it is worth, do not stay hungry while working. If you can afford the time to eat when you are hungry, invest in healthy snacks. Have stashed away in your office, purse or car snacks that you can reach out and pull as you work. Nuts and Granola bars are the recommended.

5. WATER: Drink a lot of water. Get water carriers and pitchers you can take along as you go. Drinking water keeps you hydrated and nourished that if you at some point falter in your living healthy plan, lots of water intake can be a bailout. Consider having an in-office water cooler to make it easy for you and your team members to stay hydrated throughout the day. If this isn’t a possibility, keep a small refrigerator in your office to hold bottled water.

6. EATING LATE AT NIGHT: It is recommended that all meals should be taken before 8pm at most. Meals should be consumed about 3 hours before bedtime. The body’s metabolism is slower at night hence food digestion takes a longer time. If the body doesn’t use up the food, the calories taken in can be stored up as fat.

 7. EAT HEALTHY EVEN WHEN DINING OUT: Words like fried, sautéed, stir-fried should be avoided when dinning out.

Replace such with words like boiled, grilled, steamed. Since busy professionals cannot avoid dinning out, do not settle for fast and greasy food.  Ask for healthy options as most restaurants have healthy dining options to attract health-conscious customers.

8. SLEEP: Most importantly, take out time to rest. Sleep is as important as work. If a conscious effort is not made to take care of the health, it will lead to its failure and unhealthy people cannot accomplish much.
