Keeping Up Appearances (Dress The Part)
Mariam Adeyemi-Timmer
Every occasion you grace should influence what you wear. You shouldn’t be looking like you’re out for a night out with friends when you have a business dinner or looking extra corporate to a day party. As leaders in the business scene, we would have to adjust to every occasion that arises. Your appearance is the first thing prospective business partners and your colleagues see and will influence their impressions of you.
Business brunch or day party
Corporate casual
Relax the look a little bit while still keeping it decent and professional.
You could let go of the tie, pocket square, and the suit jacket.
For ladies, go for a bolder top and brighter color.
Work with more accessories (nothing too bold).
Pallazos and a shirt or fancy top.
Frills are all in atm and work well in the daytime
You could add a pair of jeans in the mix with the right top!
Business dinner
A little black dress never failed anybody
Other colors, alongside embellishments work.
Lacy dresses
Bold Jewelry
Let a little more skin out but enough left to the imagination
For men, a suit would work and a bow tie
Official meetings or conferences
Keep it all corporate
Pantsuits, skirt suits, and dress suits!
Well knotted ties and pocket squares
Accessorize; brooches, office badges
Three piece suits for men
Always try to wear a pair of heels, gives your look an even nicer flair. For those not too comfortable with sky-high heels, kitten heels would do fine, as well as block heels which are more comfortable. You represent your brand and should always look like your brand is a million bucks!
Male or female, you shouldn’t be overdressed or under-dressed for any occasion. If you can’t find the right balance, consider playing it safe with simple corporate outfits, it would just be right in the middle for whatever look you would like to achieve!
